Paris Saint-Germain — Foundation, Rise, Golden Eras, QSI Revolution, European Ambition & Parisian Identity
Foundation — A New Club for the Capital City (1970)
PSG was founded on 12 August 1970 after the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain. The goal was clear: create a major football club worthy of the French capital. The club quickly adopted its iconic red, blue and white colours, representing Paris and the French flag. In just a few years PSG earned promotion to the top flight and became a symbol of Parisian pride.
Emergence — First Titles & the Birth of the Parc des Princes Atmosphere (1980s–1990s)
PSG won its first major trophy, the Coupe de France, in 1982, followed by another in 1983. The club’s first Ligue 1 title arrived in the 1985–86 season. With stars like Safet Sušić and later Valdo, Ginola and Weah, PSG became one of France’s most exciting and competitive teams. The Parc des Princes gained a reputation for explosive crowds, ultras culture and unforgettable match nights.
European Breakthrough — The 1990s Golden Era
The 1990s brought one of PSG’s most successful eras. Between 1993 and 1997 the club reached five consecutive European semifinals. In 1996 PSG won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, defeating Rapid Wien in the final — still the club’s only major European trophy. This was the era of Rai, Leonardo, Loko, Guérin and one of the strongest squads in Europe.
QSI Revolution — Global Superstars, Massive Investment & Total Dominance (2011–Present)
In 2011 Qatar Sports Investments purchased PSG, transforming it into one of the richest and most ambitious clubs in the world. The project attracted superstars like Zlatan Ibrahimović, Thiago Silva, Cavani, Neymar Jr., Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. PSG won nearly every domestic trophy, becoming the dominant force in French football with repeated Ligue 1 titles and spectacular attacking football.
Europe’s Dream — Champions League Finals & Ambition for Glory
Despite domestic dominance, PSG’s ultimate goal remained the UEFA Champions League. The club reached the final in 2020 (losing to Bayern Munich) and the semifinals in other seasons. Paris’ European journey has been filled with dramatic nights, comebacks, heartbreaks and extraordinary performances — shaping the club’s global identity.
Modern Era — New Strategy, Youth, Identity & Post-Superstar Project
From the mid-2020s PSG has focused more on academy talent, smarter recruitment and a balanced squad rather than only global superstars. The aim is long-term stability and building a team that can finally conquer Europe while keeping a strong Parisian identity. Young talents like Zaïre-Emery represent the club’s new philosophy.
Parc des Princes — The Home of Parisian Passion
The Parc des Princes, with its sharp architecture and fierce atmosphere, is one of Europe’s most iconic stadiums. The Virage Auteuil and Virage Boulogne create intense support, massive tifos and unforgettable European nights. The stadium is a symbol of Parisian football culture.
PSG Identity — Glamour, Ambition & the City of Light
Paris Saint-Germain represents elegance, ambition, style and the global attraction of Paris. From local beginnings to worldwide recognition, PSG’s journey is defined by superstar eras, historic victories, dramatic challenges and a fanbase that spans the globe. The club’s motto, “Révons Plus Grand” — “Dream Bigger” — captures the essence of modern PSG.
The PSG crest — Eiffel Tower, fleur-de-lis and the cradle of the French monarchy — symbolizes elegance, strength and Parisian heritage.
