Ukrainian Premier League
The Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) is the top division of professional football in Ukraine.
It was founded in 1991, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Soviet Top League.
Since then, **Dynamo Kyiv** and **Shakhtar Donetsk** have established themselves as the most dominant clubs in the country.
History and facts
The UPL emerged after Ukraine achieved independence in 1991. Most top Ukrainian clubs that once competed in the Soviet Top League joined the new competition. The inaugural season took place in 1992.
In the early years, **Dynamo Kyiv** dominated Ukrainian football and built a reputation in Europe, especially under legendary coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi.
From the 2000s onward, **Shakhtar Donetsk** became a major force, winning numerous titles and enjoying European success.

Relegation connects it with **Persha Liha** (First League).
