Overview
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the primary international men’s football competition in Africa. Organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the tournament began in 1957 and has taken place regularly ever since.
The competition has expanded from just three participating teams in the first edition to a 24-nation format today. AFCON showcases the continent’s rich football culture, producing world-class talents who have later succeeded in Europe and globally. Historically dominant nations include Egypt, Cameroon and Ghana.
