Barbados Premier League
The Barbados Premier League (BPL) is the top professional football division in Barbados.
Founded in 1947, it is one of the oldest organized leagues in the Caribbean and features some of the island’s most historic clubs, including
Weymouth Wales, Paradise FC, Blackbirds FC, and Notre Dame SC.
History and facts
The Barbados Premier League began in 1947 under the Barbados Football Association (BFA). For decades it has served as the highest level of football in the country, producing several players who later represented Barbados in international competitions.
Traditionally, the league has been dominated by a few top clubs — especially Weymouth Wales and Notre Dame — both of which have won multiple championships.
Clubs from the league can qualify for the CONCACAF Caribbean Shield, the pathway toward the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
League system
The Barbados Premier League is the first division of Barbadian football.
Relegation leads to the Barbados Division One, the second tier of national football.
